Haskayne - University of Calgary Financial Times MBA Ranking

Haskayne's MBA program was last in the Financial Times Master's of Business Rankings in 2003, when they placed 93rd. Prior to that they debuted on the FT MBA Rankings in 2002 at 83rd.

Since then, it's been a tough time for Haskayne to make it back onto the FT Rankings. However, the joint Executive MBA program with the University of Alberta has been extremely well ranked. The UofC was ranked in 2002 and 2003 on the strength graduate salaries (Calgary is home to large number of head offices and is the centre of Canada's oil and gas industry) and salaries are one of the highest ranking categories on the Executive MBA rankings. However, one area where I would imagine UofC has been struggling in recent years is on the Idea generation portion of the FT survey. Compared to the University of Alberta (in Edmonton) and eastern schools, UofC doesn't have the same reputation for research. In the Executive MBA rankings, UofC is able to draw on their strength in salary and the UofA's strength in research to rank fairly high.

When the latest FT rankings are released in January 2008, it wouldn't be out of the question for UofC to jump back onto the list based on graduate salaries 3 years out. The oil patch is booming in Calgary and the high salary score on the Executive MBA ranking gives a fairly good idea of how the MBA program will score. Whether the strength in salary will be enough to compensate for other deficiencies will be interesting to find out.
