The thesis based program is designed mainly for students who are interested in pursuing a PhD after they have completed their MBA. Haskayne attempts to integrate students in the business community in Calgary through their strong use of a mentorship program. 2nd year students are paired up with business leaders and prior Haskayne graduates from around Calgary to get advice and insight into the corporate world and building their futures.

The best known MBA program at the University of Calgary is actually the Alberta Haskayne Executive MBA program that is run in conjunction with the University of Alberta. The EMBA program ranks in the top 50 EMBA programs world wide – as ranked by the Financial Times.

Students in the MBA program can specialize in 4 main areas, or work in conjunction with the MBA office to create a customized specialization to better match their interest. The four specialized areas are:

Global Energy Management and Sustainable Development
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Finance
Marketing

For students with an interest in the Energy and Oil and Gas sectors, the University of Calgary is a great choice for an MBA school. With the booming oil sands development in Ft. McMurray in Northern Alberta, Calgary has grown into a financial centre for Western Canada. Numerous corporate head offices for major energy firms in Canada and regional offices for multi-national firms are located in Calgary.

Hello, I currently live and work in Calgary. I work in accouning in the Oil Patch. I am looking to do an MBA with a concentration in finance. Do you have any numbers as to salary for graduates? I was not looking at the EMBA program

Hi,

There are a number of factors that would determine the salary for grads in Finance (where you want to work, where you went to school, how your previous work experience benefits your future job, full-time or part-time MBA, etc.). For a quick reference point:

Haskayne Grads (average salary of all Full-Time grads) - $70,563 in 2008

UofT Finance Grads (2008) - $83,721

What school(s) were you considering (I'm assuming Haskayne is one)?
